The Nomads

The only three Nomads pictured together.  The MK 1 coupe with a twin cam engine with the larger MK 2 and MK 3 open cars.

The Nomads were built by Mark Konig and Bob Curl to race in national and international sports car races.  The MK 1 was a coupe built in 1967 and powered with a twin cam engine.

In 1968 a formula 1 BRM car was purchased and the MK 2 was built from the parts.   In 1969 an identical car, the MK 3 was built.  No further cars were made.   Both cars built with space frames and fibreglass bodies were powered by 2 litre V8 BRM engines.

The Events
The Mk2 being built a year earlier than the Mk3 enjoyed a longer racing history. Making it's international debut with longtail bodywork in the May 1969 Targa Florio driven by Mark and Gabriel Konig. It was leading it's class and comfortably the quickest 2 litre car until Gabriel was forced to retire after 4 hours with a puncture. The third race was Le Mans 1969 where it was driven by Mark Konig and Tony Lanfranchi but failed to finish. There was however success with class wins and high placings in the international sport car endurance races before both cars were sold in 1972.

The Mk3 had it's debut at the May 1970 Silverstone Martini International meeting driven by Lanfranchi. Although the car was then put up for sale it completed a full season ending with the Nurburing 500k's. The Mk3 was then shipped to South Africa for the Springbok Series where it achieved placings as high as 3rd in six events through the winter.
